Shot of wooden horse in a carousel at a local fair.
The origin of the carousel dates to around 500 A.D.
The word carousel originates from the Italian garosello and Spanish carosella ("little war"), used by crusaders to describe a combat preparation exercise and game played by Turkish and Arabian horsemen in the 1100s.
Currently, the world's oldest galloping carousel, called "Le Gallopant" is located in La Ronde, Montreal one and only amusement park. This heritage carousel was built in 1885 by Belgian craftsmen, making it the oldest “galloping” carousel in the world.
